Introducing Our New Associate Wellness
Nutrition Program Manager

Monica Kelly, MS, RD, CDN, CNSC

Monica is a Registered Dietitian who has been working in the nutrition field for more than ten years as well as in the Academic field, teaching a graduate medical nutrition course at NYU for the past six years. Monica is not new to Montefiore Einstein; she worked at the Moses camps for over 8 years as a critical care dietitian. She is excited to begin working with associates and teams to help them achieve their nutritional goals through one-on-one consultations (in English or Spanish) or team education sessions to support their overall health and wellbeing.

Monica enjoys walking her dog every day by the Hudson River while listening to music. She finds this to be very relaxing, and it also helps her unwind after work and maintain good mental health and wellbeing. For more information, email Monica HERE.

Associate Wellness Supports our Montefiore Nurses

Dr.  Brenda Boatswain, Wellbeing Manager, discussed Effects of a Wellness Intervention on Moral Distress in Nurses at the 3rd Wakefield Interprofessional Research & Quality Improvement Symposium held on June 4, 2024. Moral distress is an occupational hazard that contributes to psychological distress, burnout and possible turnover among nurses. As part of the research on moral distress, Dr. Boatswain implemented a 4-session wellness intervention that included science-based wellbeing and relaxation strategies.

Did You Know? Throughout this year Associate Wellness has presented workshops on health and wellbeing that provide continuing education credit for nurses. Associate Wellness supports our Montefiore nurses with
one-on-one consultations for their wellbeing and group support and
programs for their units.

If you would like a wellbeing program for your unit or department,

A Conversation with Care Guidance

Associate Wellness reached out to Mary Jo Maloney, the Associate
Director of Care Guidance to share more about how this Montefiore
Einstein program is supporting associates to be more engaged with their
health and medical care.

Can you describe what Care Guidance offers & to whom?

Care Guidance is a concierge service that provides personalized and proactive health management support to associates and their dependents who are insured by Montefiore Anthem/Empire. Whether you're recovering from illness or injury, trying to manage a chronic condition, transitioning from a hospital stay, or just looking to make better health choices, many associates can benefit. Our team of Personal Health Nurses provides individual care and lifestyle assistance and can also connect individuals to additional care in the Montefiore network, such as scheduling consultations for specific disciplines like nutrition and pharmacy. Participation is voluntary and 100% confidential.

Can you share a success story?

We recently received a letter from an associate who had reached out to Care Guidance to be more proactive with his needed screenings and stay on top of some existing health issues. He shared that his Personal Health Nurse is "outstanding in every way. She is attentive and tailored her referrals and recommendations to my specific needs, ensured I had successful follow up, and helped me navigate the Montefiore Health System. Aside from being excellent at her job, she shines interpersonally. I always felt heard, respected, and cared for. She cared for me holistically, never reducing me to my symptoms. She ensured I had all the right appointments, that I understood every aspect of my clinical course, and that all of my concerns were address."
